My longtime career as an elementary school librarian inspired me to write for children. I'm the author of the award-winning16 WORDS: William Carlos Williams and "The Red Wheelbarrow," ill. Chuck Groenink (Penguin Random House/Schwartz & Wade), the Massachusetts Must-Read HOUND WON’T GO, ill. Meg Ishihara (Albert Whitman), a contributor to Friends and Anemones FRIENDS AND ANEMONES: OCEAN POEMS FOR CHILDREN (Writers’ Loft Press) and a contributor to IF I COULD CHOOSE A BEST DAY (Candlewick, 2025) edited by Irene Latham and Charles Waters. DISCOVER HER ART: WOMEN ARTISTS AND THEIR MASTERPIECES, coauthored with Jean Leibowitz, (Chicago Review Press, 2022), received praise for its inclusive group of artists.Six picture book biographies are forthcoming including WOODY’S WORDS: WOODROW WILSON RAWLS AND “WHERE THE RED FERN GROWS” (Astra/Calkins Creek).I hold a bachelor’s degree from The College of William and Mary and a master’s from Boston College, both in English Literature, and a master’s in Library Science from Southern Connecticut State University. A former daily news reporter and editor, I live outside Boston with my family and intrepid hound and am a four-time runner of the Boston Marathon.
