I worked as a teaching assistant for a Girls Who Code summer immersion program in the California Bay area. There were many struggles I faced with transportation, housing, and learning the curriculum. And there were also many rewards. I had a wonderful summer getting to know 20 high school girls of color and watching their passion for computer science grow. On top of that, I visited several tech companies in the San Bruno area and learned a lot from women programmers working in the industry, as well as from the girls themselves on how education and technology can impact the lives of young women. If you’re interested in tech education aimed at minority populations, in living and working in the Bay area, or in learning about a variety of opportunities for female programmers, then you won’t be disappointed by my talk.
